November 23rd, 24th, December 24th, 25th, 31st, and January 1st.
1. All contestants must enter the El Monstruo del Monte Big Game
Contest 24 hours before the animal is harvested. A person will be
considered entered when the fee of
$25.00
is paid, and the date and time are recorded at the contest
headquarters. Contestants may enter in person or by mail. Phone
entries may be made with a credit card, only if the proper
information is provided to the contest. Contestants entering other
contestants must provide all the proper information that the contest
requests in order for those people to be entered. In case of a tie
the earliest paid entry will be rewarded the winner.
2. A contestant may win more than one category, but not with the
same animal.
3. A contestant must have a valid Texas hunting license, and is
required by the contest director to show proof of the license when
an animal is brought to the contest headquarters. All animals must
be harvested in accordance with the rules and regulations of the
Texas Parks and Wildlife. Failure to abide by the rules will be
grounds for disqualification from the contest.
4. All animals must be scored by an official El Monstruo del Monte
Scorer. Official scorers are only to be chosen by the contest
director. All animals are to be scored and weighed at DF&G Wildlife
Supply in Dilley, Texas. If the animal is scored at another contest
the director will make the decision to accept a score or have the
animal rescored at the contest headquarters. If the directors choose
to allow the score sheet from another contest, the hunter must
provide a copy of the score sheet along with a picture of him/her
with the animal. If the director chooses to have the deer rescored
the hunter must bring the animal to the contest headquarters. If the
hunter chooses not to bring the animal in, the hunter and the animal
will not be allowed in the contest.

5. All contestants must enter their own kill and the antlers must be
attached to the body of a freshly killed whitetail deer or attached
to sufficient portion of the head, neck, and cape of a freshly
killed whitetail deer. No deer will be eligible for the contest if
brought in with just the skull and antlers. All animals must be
brought in by the hunter that harvested the animal; if the hunter is
not with the animal it will not be allowed in the contest. All
animals must be tagged when brought to the contest.

6. All animals to be entered into the El Monstruo del Monte Big Game
Contest must be from the state of Texas. No animals that are brought
into the state, regardless of age or sex will be allowed into the
contest. Failure to abide by these rules will be grounds for
disqualification.
7. The El Monstruo del Monte Big Game Contest will use the Boone &
Crockett scoring guidelines to determine the gross score of the
animal. The winners will be based on the full gross score of the
animal, with the exception of Division 6. All winners of Division 6
will be determined by the total net score of the animal. All animals
will receive full credit for their antlers. There will be no
deductions for lack of symmetry on non-typical animals or in any
other ways considered by the Boone & Crockett scoring system.
8. Animals that are brought in Velvet to the contest are subject to
a 3% deduction in order to be eligible to be entered into the
contest.
9. All first place winners in the contest must have their animals on
display at the awards banquet in order to claim their prizes. If the
winner can not be at the awards banquet they will forfeit all prizes
except their jacket. No prizes will be mailed until the shipping
charges have been paid in full. All first place winners may also be
asked to submit a polygraph test to verify their harvest. The
director will choose the time and place of the test.
10. If a hunter should qualify to win one or more categories, the
director of the El Monstruo del Monte Big Game Contest will choose
the category in which his or her animal will be entered. The
director has the right to move an animal around to different
categories at anytime during the contest. A hunter may only win one
category. All animals must be brought in to the contest within 48
hours after the end of the regular hunting season to be able to win.
11. Animals that are considered “Tame”, “Domesticated” or “Pet” are
not allowed in the contest. All animals that were ever kept inside a
pen for breeding purposes or any other reason are considered tame
and will not be allowed in the contest. The official scorer will
check the animal for any type of markings. If these types of
markings are found the animal will not be allowed in the contest. If
the contest director finds that the animal is not free ranging, he
has the right to hold the animal out of the contest until an intense
investigation is done. If the director finds that the animal was not
free-ranging the animal and the hunter be will disqualified from the
contest. The exception to this rule shall be native, wild,
free-ranging deer that have been identified by an ear tag for a
legitimate study of free-ranging deer. The director must be shown
proof of the study by forms and legal documents. Failure to provide
this type of information will result in disqualification from the
contest.
12. When an animal comes into the contest headquarters to be scored
or weighed all information provided by the hunter must be correct.
It is the hunter’s choice to decide if they want the ranch name to
be posted. The ranch name must be provided to the contest for their
use only. If the information provided is not correct, that will be
grounds for disqualification.
13. The contest director has the right at anytime during the contest
to re-measure any animal and reverse the winner of the category.
14. When bringing an animal to the contest headquarters to be
scored or weighed, the hunter must call ahead to notify the contest
so an official scorer will be present. No animals will be weighed or
scored during the off hours. Scoring hours are from 8am to 2pm and
from 7pm to 9pm seven days a week. With the exception of the
holidays listed on page 1 of the official rules and regulations.

15. In the weight categories the animal must be dressed. Dressed is
defined as entire carcass with all entails removed including heart,
liver, lungs, ETC… All animals must be weighed at DF&G Wildlife
Supply in Dilley, Texas.
16. Animals harvested with a bow are not restricted to the Archery
Division. Women and Youth are not restricted to the Women’s Division
or the Youth Division. A Women of any age can compete in the Women’s
Division. Archers, Women, Youth, and Out-of-State hunters are not
limited to those specific categories.
17. Gross Non-Typical scores are determined by what is considered to
be the Gross Non-Typical score by the Boone & Crockett measuring
system. Gross Typical scores are determined by what is considered to
be the Typical score by the Boone & Crockett measuring system.
18. Low Fence Division- Is for animals that are harvested from land
of any size that has fences that are no taller than 5 feet that
could be captive to the animal. If the property is surrounded by a
escape-proof fence on any side there must be at least 5000 feet of
no fence at all or a fence that is 5 feet or shorter. Any animal
harvested in the Low Fence Division is only allowed in that
division, except for Archery which is allowed in the Archery
Division.
19. High Fence Division- Is for animals that are harvested from land
that is surrounded by a escape-proof fence. Escape-proof fence is
any fence that is 6 feet or taller. Any animal harvested in the High
Fence Division is only allowed in that division, except for Archery
which is allowed to be in the Archery Division. The minimum acreage
is 100 acres. Any animals killed in anything smaller are not allowed
in the contest.
20. Youth Division- Can only be won by a youth that is 16 years or
younger.
21. Out-of-State Resident- Is for hunters that come to the state of
Texas to hunt. This category may only be won by non-Texas residents.
22. Widest Spread- Animals in the widest spread category will be
measured for the greatest outside spread. The winner will be
determined by the widest outside spread.
23. Heaviest Mass- Animals in the heaviest mass category will be
measured by the total of 4 circumferences on each side. The winner
will be determined by the total of all 8 measurements.
24. Most Points- Animals in the most points category will be
measured by the total of all 1 inch points or longer. A point is
considered a point when the length is longer than the base. All
points over 1 inch will be counted to determine the winner.
25. Longest Drop Tine- Animals in the longest drop tine category
will receive full credit for all down growing points. The winner
will be determined by the total of all down growing points over 1
inch long.
26. Best Nine Point- Animals in the nine point category must have
only nine points, with no signs of broken points. Any animal that
has a smooth nine points can be in this category. The winner will be
determined by the total gross score of the animal. If an animal has
points broken off it will not be allowed in this category, but may
still be eligible for another category.
27. Best Eight Point- Animals in the eight point category must have
only eight points, with no signs of broken points. Any animal that
has a smooth eight points can be in this category. The winner will
be determined by the total gross score of the animal. If an animal
has points broken off it will not be allowed in this category, but
may still be eligible for another category.
28. Best Seven Point- Animals in the seven point category must have
only seven points, with no signs of broken points. Any animal that
has a smooth seven points can be in this category. The winner will
be determined by the total gross score of the animal. If an animal
has points broken off it will not be allowed in this category, but
may still be eligible for another category.
29. Best Six Point- Animals in the six point category must have only
six points, with no signs of broken points. Any animal that has
smooth a six points can be in this category. The winner will be
determined by the total gross score of the animal. If an animal has
points broken off it will not be allowed in this category, but may
still be eligible for another category.
30. Longest Spike- Animals in the longest spike category must have
only 2 points, with no signs of any broken points. The winner will
be determined by the total of both antlers.

31. Heaviest Buck- Animals in the heaviest buck category must be
dressed. All entails must be removed. Low Fence and High Fence
animals can compete in this category. All animals must be weighed at
DF&G Wildlife Supply in Dilley, Texas. The winner will be determined
by the heaviest overall animal.

32. Heaviest Doe- Animals in the heaviest doe category must be
dressed. All entails must be removed. Low Fence and High Fence
animals can compete in this category. All animals must be weighed at
DF&G Wildlife Supply in Dilley, Texas. The winner will be determined
by the heaviest overall animal.

33. Heaviest Wild Hog- Animals in the heaviest wild hog category
must be dressed. All entails must be removed. Low Fence and High
Fence animals can compete in this category. No animals will be
allowed in the contest if they were trapped and then released to be
harvested. All animals must be weighed at DF&G Wildlife Supply in
Dilley, Texas. The winner will be determined by the heaviest overall
animal. 1st Place
Only.
34. Freak of the Year- Any whitetail deer can compete in this
category. All animals in this category must be harvested with a
rifle or bow, and cannot come from a breeder pen. This winner will
be determined by the most unusual set of antlers. The director makes
that decision.

35. Best Typical Buck Frio County- The animal in this category must
be harvested in the county of Frio. The winner will be determined by
the total NET Typical score of the animal.

36. Best Non-Typical Buck Frio County- The animal in this category
must be harvested in the county of Frio. The winner will be
determined by the total NET Non-Typical score of the animal.
1st Place Only.
37. Best Typical Buck Dimmit County- The animal in this category
must be harvested in the county of Dimmit. The winner will be
determined by the total NET Typical score of the animal.

38. Best Non-Typical Buck Dimmit County- The animal in this category
must be harvested in the county of Dimmit. The winner will be
determined by the total NET Non-Typical score of the animal.

39. Best Typical Buck La Salle County- The animal in this category
must be harvest in the county of La Salle. The winner will be
determined by the total NET Typical score of the animal.

40. Best Non-Typical Buck La Salle County- The animal in this
category must be harvested in the county of La Salle. The winner
will be determined by the total NET Non-Typical score of the animal.
